Two indigenous men attacked and wounded in Catatumbo

Unidentified gunmen attacked and wounded two indigenous Barí men in Tibú, department of Catatumbo, on 21 January. One of the two men was leader of the Bokshi community. In addition, a number of homes of community members were apparently burnt, according to the ASCAMCAT organisation.

The attack comes amid growing concern over the deteriorating human rights situation in the region. ASCAMCAT called for national and local authorities to launch an investigation into the attack and other cases of intimidation and violence against Catatumbo residents.
