A young rural worker and activists was murdered in Cauca, department of Cauca, last week. Jhorman Arlex Ipia, 28 years old, was shot at least six times.
It is the latest killing in what has been Colombia’s most dangerous region for social activists since the signing of the 2016 peace agreement.
Jhorman belonged to the ANZORC association of rural workers, which is affiliated to the FENSUAGRO agricultural trade union. He was also a member of the Patriotic March political organisation. These different organisations have each suffered high levels of repression and political violence over the years.
More than 350 social activists have been murdered since the beginning of 2016.
