Justice for Colombia condemns the assassination of Senator Miguel Uribe and calls for all political parties and movements to renew their efforts to build peace and social justice. The respect for life is essential to democracy.
The death of Miguel Uribe is a tragic reminder of the horror of political violence in Colombia. Uribe was himself an orphan of this violence, and his death now unites his loved ones in sorrow and grief with the many thousands of Colombians who have lost family, friends, and colleagues to political violence.
We call on all sides in Colombian politics to renew their efforts to find common ground, to strive for peace through dialogue, and reject the intolerance and violence that only create more victims.
