The violence in Arauca continues to claim civilian lives with yet another killing, this time of an indigenous man.
Local human rights organisations have reported the killing of an indigenous man on the morning of June 10th by troops of the Colombian army’s 30th Mobile Brigade. The murder happened near the village of Galaxias in Arauca, one of Colombia’s most conflicted regions.
The incident occurred at the farm of a peasant farmer known as ‘Roger’, who was at home with his family and a group of indigenous colleagues when army troops approached the farm. The group began to disperse in fear, and soldiers opened fire indiscriminately, killing one person. Another remains disappeared. The soldiers then forced their way into Roger’s home, and threatened his family.
This latest incident follows several assassinations in recent weeks in the region.
