Trade Unionist Shot Dead at Work

SINTRAEMCALI, the union of the public sector workers of Cali has reported that Carlos Arturo Castro Casas, a 41 year-old engineer and father of three, was killed on May 23rd while working in the El Poblado sector of the city. The car he was travelling to a pumping station in was stopped by two armed men and the victim was shot in the neck. He was taken to hospital but died of his wounds soon after arrival.
He had worked at EMCALI for 20 years and had been a member of the SINTRAEMCALI union since 1991. He is the 9th trade unionist to be killed so far in 2011.
