The community council in the village of Panama in the Colombian province of Arauca have accused the Colombian security forces of illegally detaining an innocent local man. According to a report sent out by the community, security forces arrived in the area on Saturday 9th October and arrested Mr Dumar Alfonso Montealegre without any sort of judicial order after accusing him of being a FARC guerrilla sympathiser.
At the time of his detention Mr Montealegre, who the community say is a person of good character who regularly attends a local evangelical church, was attending a temporary medical post that was visiting the village of El Lipa and was accompanied by his wife and children. But upon presenting his identity card Mr Montealegre was detained by members of the DAS intelligence police and immediately transferred to the prison in the city of Arauca.
The community of Panama has called for his immediate liberation and an end to arbitrary detentions which, they say, are very common in the province.
