Two Colombian fire fighters have ended a very successful speaking tour around the United Kingdom. Arranged by Justice for Colombia, the two guests participated in the conference of the British Fire Brigades Union (FBU) as well as the annual congress of the Welsh TUC during their visit. Whilst here, Luis Adan Arguello and Eclides Mancipe Tabares, also had the opportunity to attend fire training centres and several fire stations.
One of several positive outcomes was an agreement for the FBU and the Colombian fire fighters union ASDEBER, to establish direct links with the aim of exchanging ideas, training, equipment and experiences. The FBU also agreed to provide financial help to ASDEBER to enable them to arrange a national fire fighters conference in Colombia.
Mr Arguello, who also sits on the Executive of the CTC union federation in Colombia, and Mr Mancipe were also invited to address the annual congress of the Wales TUC where they called on the British Government to end their policy of providing military aid to the Colombian regime. After their visit the Wales TUC put out the following statement http://www.tuc.org.uk/international/tuc-14829-f0.cfm?regional=2
At both the FBU and Wales TUC conferences the two visitors spoke at Justice for Colombia fringe meetings that were attended by large number of delegates.
