On 10 July the UN Security Council unanimously voted in favour of establishing a new UN political mission in Colombia. The first political mission was appointed to monitor and verify the ceasefire and laying down of arms process of the FARC.

The new mission, which will start on 26 September immediately following the completion of the first mission, will initially last for 12 months and will be responsible for monitoring the social, political and economic reincorporation of the FARC, personal and collective security guarantees and security and protection measures for communities and organisations in conflict-affected areas.
