CORRECTION: Nine (not seven) Trade Unionists Assassinated During March

March was a deadly month for Colombian trade unionists with nine (not seven as previously reported) having been assassinated two of them by soldiers of the Colombian Army. As is usual in such cases nobody has been arrested for any of the murders.

Below are the names of the victims, which trade union they belonged to and where and when they were killed.

Carmen Cecilia Carvajal, activist in the teachers' trade union FECODE, killed on March 4th in the town of Ocana in Norte de Santander department.

Gildardo Antonio Gomez, activist in the teachers' trade union FECODE, killed on March 7th in the city of Medellin in Antioquia department.

Leonidas Gomez Rozo, leader of the bank workers' trade union UNEB, killed on March 8th in the Colombian capital Bogota.

Victor Manuel Munoz, activist in the teachers' trade union FECODE, killed on March 12th in the town of Codazzi in Cesar department.

Carlos Burbano, regional leader of the health workers trade union ANTHOC, killed on March 12th in the town of San Vicente in Caqueta department.

Jose Fernando Quiroz and Manuel Antonio Jimenez, both activists in the agricultural workers trade union FENSUAGRO, killed on March 14th and March 15th respectively in the Teteye area of Putumayo department.

Jose Gregorio Astros Amaya, activist in the prison officers trade union ASEINPEC, killed March 18th in the town of Catago in Valle department.

Adolfo Gonzalez Montes, leader of the miners' trade union SINTRACARBON, killed on March 22nd in the city of Riohacha in La Guajira department.
