Another community leader has been assassinated in Colombia. Eder Cuetia Conda, a peasant farmer and indigenous activist and member of the Patriotic March, was shot dead on the evening of Sunday 26 February. He had been with friends in the municipality of Corinto, Cauca department, when he was attacked by an armed individual who later escaped on a motorbike.
Cauca is one of the most dangerous areas of Colombia for human rights defenders and four political activists have been killed there so far this year.
Eder had been involved with human rights activism for the last 15 years. He was a member of the local Community Action Committee, the indigenous reserve Lopez Adentro and coordinated the region's peasant farmer safety initiative.
