LA Times Reports on Increase in Army Murders

The Los Angeles Times has reported on the ongoing rise in cases of Colombian Army units murdering civilians and then presenting their bodies as guerrillas killed in combat. The article points out that both troops and their commanders have been given cash and promotions for upping their units' body counts and that there is heavy pressure on Army units to show 'progress' in the war against the FARC guerrilla group. According to human rights groups literally hundreds of civilians, mainly peasant farmers, have now been murdered and subsequently dressed in guerrilla uniforms.
