FARC and government sign agreement on Victims

News from Colombia | on: Tuesday, 15 December 2015

After more than three years of peace talks the FARC and the Colombian government have signed an agreement of the fifth agenda point – the issue of victims. The question of victims was the most difficult issue for the negotiators and they spent more than a year finalising the agreement which seeks to promote its stated aim of ensuring justice, truth, reparation and guarantees of non-repetition for all of the more than 7 million victims of the Colombian armed conflict.

As part of the agreement five key points were highlighted:the creation of a committee for truth, coexistence, and non-repetition; a unit for searching for the disappeared; a speacialist peace legal framework; measures for full reparation; and guarantees of non-repetition.

The agreement comes just two months after the announcement that the final peace deal would be signed by March 2016.

The final point of discussion on the six-point agenda is how to bring an end to armed hostilities.
