Human rights defender suffers acid attack

In what is becoming a growing tool in the broad arsenal used by the perpetrators of attacks against activists in Colombia, a human rights leader in the Pacific region of Nariño was attacked with acid on 13 December 2014.

Diana Montilla is the spokesperson for the Movement for the Victims of State Crimes and has faced yers of threats and intimidation as a result. Less than a week after the acid attack, which burnt her clothes and left a small mark on her leg, she received a death threat signed off by the “Black Eagles” in which she was labeled a military target for “making trouble for the military”.
