In a case which is all too common in Colombian jails, Adolfo Perdomo Troches, a prisoner in the Popayan prison in the Department of Cauca, is in a critical condition as prison authorities continue to fail to provide him with the necessary medical attention.

For several weeks he complained of an infection in his arm, but the authorities only allowed him to visit medical staff after the infection had reached the bone. Even then, he has only been provided with painkillers and was sent back to his cell.

In recent months at least two political prisoners have died and as a result of refused medical attention and 180 prisoners in Bogotá took part in a hunger strike.
