Former Negotiators Discuss Peace on Colombian TV

Justice For Colombia News | on: Monday, 10 November 2014

In June 2014 JFC took its latest delegation from Ireland/Northern Ireland to Colombia to observe the situation there as part of our efforts to support the Colombian peace process. Among the delegates were former negotiators of the Good Friday Agreement. During their time in Colombia three of the delegates took time from their busy schedule to participate in a TV roundtable chaired by The Guardian’s Seumas Milne on Colombian TV channel ‘Canal Capital’.

Mark Durkan MP (SDLP), former Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland and a negotiator of the Good Friday Agreement; Conor Murphy MP (Sinn Fein) a negotiator of the Good Friday Agreement and former political prisoner; and Peter Bunting (ICTU) Assistant General Secretary of the Irish Congress of trade Unions with experience of decommissioning and working with prisoners discussed the origins of the peace process in Northern Ireland, and the similarities and differences between the two processes, such as the importance of a bilateral ceasefire, and international support for the peace process itself.

After a short introduction in Spanish you can watch the discussion in English from minute 03.45.
