The Association of Agricultural Workers of Huila, ACTH, an affiliate of FENSUAGRO has reported the arrest of Armando Castano Pascuas on 5th August. Mr Castano is a well known union leader and former president of the local council.
On the day of his arrest Mr Castano was travelling by truck when two pick ups with blacked out windows blocked his path. Armed men descended from them, identifying themselves as members of the SIJIN police, who said they had a warrant to arrest him for the crime of ‘rebellion’, a catch all term used to indicate that the victim has links to the guerrillas. Mr Castano has been taken to the city of Neiva.
