Health Worker Trade Unionist Murdered

The Colombian Health Workers’ Union, ANTHOC has denounced the forced disappearance and murder of one of their members in north western Colombia. Benjamin Martinez Arteaga, local union activist and auxiliary nurse at the Health Centre in the village of Pueblo Nuevo de Necolci, Antioquia Department, disappeared on the morning of June 21st after travelling to the city of Monteria in Cordoba Department.
After several days of disappearance, his body was finally found on June 25th. He had been killed violently and had been buried in an unmarked grave in the cemetery in the municipality of Chinu, Cordoba Department.
The region is an area of strong paramilitary influence.
