Displaced Leader Disappeared

Juan Antonio Ariza Carrillo, a founding member of the ANDESCOL displaced peasant’s organisation, left his home in the town of Albania on September 1st and has not been seen since. He was last heard of when aboard a bus towards La Guajira.
Mr Ariza displaced from Magdalena after receiving threats in 2002. He then received threats again in 2008 and in 2010 two men on a motorbike stopped his wife, handed her a written note that read “stop interfering” and showed her a handgun. In December 2010, after displacing once again, he received more threats from armed men, and in January 2011 he received phone threats from a man who identified himself as a member of the ‘Black Eagles’ paramilitaries.
