Support for Justice for Colombia

Various organisations (48 at the current time), in both the UK and Republic of Ireland, are affiliated to Justice for Colombia on a national level. These bodies assist us with funding and provide practical and political support for our work. Current affiliates include:

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) represents nearly seven million working people from all walks of life. TUC leader Brendan Barber is the President of Justice for Colombia.

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ITUC) represents nearly a million working people and is the largest civil society organisation in the Republic of Ireland.

The National Union of Students (NUS) is a confederation of 600 students' unions in the UK representing the interests of more than seven million students.

Unite is one of the largest trade unions in Europe representing around two million people in numerous different sectors of the economy in both the UK and Ireland.

UNISON represents 1.3 million British workers in the public sector in the UK and Ireland.

The Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) represents over 640,000 trade unionists living and working in Scotland.

The GMB is a general union with 600,000 members in the UK and Ireland.

The Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (USDAW) represent over 387,000 workers, predominantly in the retail sector, in both the UK and Ireland.

The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) represent over 300,000 members in the civil service and government agencies in the UK and Ireland.

The National Union of Teachers represents approximately 280,000 British teachers.

The NASUWT represents approximately 265,000 British teachers in the UK and Ireland.

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) represents 230,000 workers in the postal and telecoms industry.

The General Federation of Trade Unions is the federation representing 32 specialist unions with some 220,000 members between them.

The Services, Industrial, Professional and Technical Union (SIPTU) represents over 200,000 Irish workers from virtually every category of employment across almost every sector of the Irish economy.

The Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) represent 160,000 members working in the education sector in the UK and Ireland.

The Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians (UCATT) has 125,000 members working in the construction industry in the UK and Ireland.

Prospect represents 122,000 professionals including engineers, scientists, managers and specialists in areas such as agriculture, defence, energy and the environment in both the UK and Ireland.

The University and College Union (UCU) represents more than 120,000 academics, lecturers, researchers, librarians and others working in the further and higher education sectors in the UK and Ireland.

The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) represent more than 80,000 workers in almost every sector of the transport industry in both the UK and Ireland.

Community represents nearly 70,000 members in several industries including steel and metals, textiles, betting shops and social care.

The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) represents 45,000 fire fighters in the UK and Ireland.

The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) represents 38,000 journalists in the UK and Ireland. Their representative on the Justice for Colombia Committee is the General Secretary Jeremy Dear.

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) represents approximately 35,000 physiotherapists in the UK and Ireland.
